Tokyo – Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Nizar Obaid Madani stated that King Salman’s official visit to Japan stemmed from the strong bonds between the two countries and sought to enhance and develop relations to broaden horizons in order to serve common interests.

The Minister held a press conference in Tokyo on Tuesday before Japanese media on the sidelines of the official visit of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz to Japan.

The Custodian met in Tokyo with Emperor Akihito who awarded him the Order of the Chrysanthemum.

Madani told the press that the King held constructive talks in the evening with the Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. He noted that the meeting was characterized by deep mutual understanding and the two officials exchanged views on ways to develop Saudi-Japanese bilateral relations and intensify cooperation in all fields.

They also discussed regional issues, including the Palestinian cause and the crises in Syria and Yemen.

King Salman and Abe both agreed that it is important to achieve peaceful solutions to these crises within the framework of UN resolutions, stressing the need to send humanitarian and relief aid to the people affected by them.

The King also met the Japanese foreign minister and the minister of trade and economy.

Madani added that the Kingdom and Japan possess many capabilities that will translate the objectives of this visit into concrete results that would strengthen the interests between the two countries and promote bilateral cooperation to meet the aspirations of the governments and peoples of the two countries.

He stressed the importance of exchanging official visits between the two countries’ officials and businessmen, which would contribute to the development of bilateral relations in various fields, increase joint investments and explore opportunities in light of Saudi Vision 2030.

He pointed out that during the visit, the two countries signed several agreements and bilateral memorandums.

Madani reviewed the Saudi-Japanese Vision 2030 and Saudi Vision 2030 in light of the agreements signed.

He stressed that Saudi Arabia has strong relations with all countries around the world whether in the East or the West.
