Riyadh – Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s condemnation of the attack on a military base in the Republic of Mali near the border with the Republic of Burkina Faso, in which eleven soldiers were killed and four injured, on Sunday, 5 March 2017, according to an official source.

In a statement, the foreign ministry reiterated the Kingdom’s support for Mali and offered its condolences to the families of the victims and Malian government and people, wishing a speedy recovery for the injured.

Similarly, Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) strongly condemned the terrorist attack perpetrated against a military base on the border between Mali and Burkina Faso.

OIC Secretary General Yousef al-Othaimeen expressed his condolences to the government of Mali and to the bereaved families, wishing the injured prompt recovery.

The Sec-Gen described this act as unjustified and urged the local authorities to put in every possible effort to have the perpetrators arrested and brought to justice.

Othaimeen called on the concerned authorities in the Sahel States to adhere to full vigilance and to do their utmost to eradicate the phenomenon of terrorism.

He reiterated the OIC’s full support for the Republic of Mali and the frontline states in the region, to face up to this serious affliction and to achieve and promote security, peace and sustainable development.
