Saudi Information Minister: More than 500 Journalists from All Over the World to Cover Riyadh Summits - ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive

Riyadh – Saudi Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Awwad al-Awwad confirmed that US President Donald Trump’s choice of Saudi Arabia to be his first foreign stop since he took office stems from his recognition of the Kingdom’s status in the Muslim world, its international importance and its value as a strategic ally of the United States.

Awwad pointed out that the visit is an evidence of the great respect for the special relation that brings together the two friendly countries and which has extended for more than eight decades.

“King Salman’s meeting with Trump is expected to deepen understanding of the political, security and trade aspects between Saudi Arabia and the US,” Awwad said.

He added that it is also expected to finalize bilateral agreements that will lead to economic growth and investment and contribute to new prospects for partnership between the two countries.

The Saudi Minister noted that Saudi Arabia, described as the center of Muslims where Islam has first emerged, invited leaders of more than 50 Islamic countries to attend these meetings in Riyadh summits and move hand in hand with the United States in confronting the threat of terrorism and extremism and emphasizing that Islam is innocent of terrorism in all its forms.

“We hope that this historic event will be an important step in the eradication of the terrorism affecting people around the world without any exception,” he added.

Awwad explained that the Ministry of Culture and Information will host more than 500 journalists from across the world to cover this historic event.

He said that Saudi Arabia is seeking through an ambitious strategy to invest the media and modern technology in the transfer of the event to recipients everywhere, which comes within the Kingdom’s efforts in its 2030 vision that seeks to achieve comprehensive renaissance in all fields, most notably the development of the Saudi economy and the promotion of foreign investment.

Awwad said that the work plan in this vision will witness a huge investment in modernizing infrastructure and establishing technologically advanced industries to diversify the economy and create jobs for Saudis based on knowledge.

Media from around the globe have descended on Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, in anticipation of Trump’s first overseas trip since taking office.

During the historic visit, Trump will meet leaders from more than 40 countries while attending three summits to develop strategies to bring the world closer together to cooperate against the threat of global terrorism and violent extremism.

The President will also attend the inauguration of the Global Center for Countering Extremist Ideology.

President Trump will hold talks with Saudi Arabia’s leadership to strengthen the ongoing cooperation in the areas of global security and counter terrorism and deepen bilateral trade ties to support the objectives of Vision 2030, the Saudi national transformation plan.
