Riyadh- Saudi Ministry of Labor and Social Development announced its plan to support the non-profit sector through providing 60,000 job opportunities in this sector and training workers in line with National Transformation Program (NTP) 2020.

The initiative achieves highest levels of financial security and increases levels of transparency and accountability for civil society organizations. Another initiative also aims at rehabilitating the labor force and providing job opportunities in the non-profit sector.

The initiatives addresse current challenges facing the non-profit sector, including the lack of clarity in the framework of the governance of civil society organizations and the need to develop mechanisms to supervise these organizations, not to mention the low number of qualified workers in the major positions of the sector.

In this matter, Deputy Minister for Social Development at the Ministry Salem al-Dini said that the ministry seeks a comprehensive study for all current jobs available in the non-profit sector and the qualifications of employees working in the sector.

Dr. Dini noted that the standards of governing civil society organizations were developed in accordance with the system of associations and civil institutions and its executive regulations.

He confirmed that these two initiatives target achieving the adherence of civil society organizations with the system of improved governance by 100 percent within 2020.

He pointed out the importance of training workers in social development centers on the concepts and tools of governance.

The ministry’s initiatives comes within the first phase of the NTP and will be implemented in partnership with the Council of Economic Affairs and Development and another 18 government bodies.

The plan is expected to usher the Kingdom into the digital age, enhance the public-private partnership, generate job opportunities and expand the local content through the implementation of 755 initiatives that focus on both economic and social development fields.
