Rawdhat Khuraim (Riyadh) – Saudi Arabia’s cabinet expressed full support for US military operations against military targets in Syria, “in response to the regime’s heinous crimes against the Syrian people and the failure of the international community to stop it from carrying further attacks.”

The cabinet strongly condemned last week’s chemical weapons attack on the city of Khan Sheikhun, north of Idlib, which claimed the lives of dozens of children, women and unarmed civilians.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the cabinet session at Rawdhat Khuraim region in Riyadh on Monday.

In a statement, the cabinet underlined Saudi Arabia’s firm position on the importance of Syria’s integral unity, preservation of governmental institutions and the efforts to find a peaceful solution to the crisis based on the outcome of the Geneva Conference and UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

The King also briefed the ministers on the results of his talks with British Prime Minister Theresa May, as well as his telephone call with US President Donald Trump.

On a different note, the government congratulated King Salman on receiving this year’s King Faisal International Prize for the Service of Islam “in recognition of his care for the service of the Two Holy Mosques” and his efforts to unify Arab and Muslim ranks to overcome challenges facing Arab and Islamic nations.

It also congratulated the King on being awarded the Prince Naif Medal for Arab Security at the conclusion of 34th Meeting of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers in Tunisia.

Minister of Culture and Information Dr. Adel Altoraifi said in a statement to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) that the cabinet reviewed the declaration issued by the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, and its decisions and recommendations, including the adoption of reports on Arab strategies to combat the illicit use of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. They also addressed Council recommendations on anti-terrorism, traffic safety, civil protection and intellectual security.

The Saudi government highlighted remarks made by deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman during his meeting with senior Yemeni tribal leaders, in which he said that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and other Gulf Cooperation Council member states, as well as Islamic and Arab countries, were determined to stand by Yemen and consider this as their duty.

The cabinet reiterated Riyadh’s strong denunciation of the explosions that rocked the Egyptian cities of Tanta and Alexandria, the explosion at a metro station in the Russian city of St. Petersburg and the truck attack in the Swedish capital Stockholm, which killed and injured dozens of innocent civilians.
