Dammam – Relevant authorities have commenced destruction of Al-Masoura Neighborhood in the town of Awamiyah – in the Kingdom’s Eastern province – in the presence of security bodies to ensure safety of engineers and workers who have started destroying the neighborhood composing of 488 houses – after determining compensations to the houses’ owners.

The process kicked off early on Wednesday morning and will continue until roads are prepared for the entrance of security vehicles and municipal equipment to resume the destruction according to a recent plan.

Al-Masoura extends on a space of 120 square meters and consists of old houses that were built on the old design – some houses are 100 years old.

Eastern Province Municipality (Amana) launched earlier a project to rehabilitate the neighborhood and transform it into a region of services and investments – the project will include gardens, entertainment zones and a region of restaurants and towers.

The neighborhood is one of the security obstacles since it houses some wanted individuals who are using abandoned houses as havens – it was raided twice leading to the death of some wanted and two martyrs from the security body.

These wanted individuals are offending security bodies and officers who are in charge of the neighborhood plan — engineer Nabih Ibrahim was subject to several assassination attempts.
