Riyadh- Saudi Arabia announced on Wednesday it will pay for the treatment of 150 Syrian children injured in Aleppo. Treatment will take place in border hospitals in Turkey, according to a press statement issued by the Kingdom’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations.

The statement said that injured children, who need more specialized treatment, will be transferred to hospitals within the Kingdom.

Saudi Arabia will also pay for the thoracic radiation devices for hospitals of Aleppo and neighboring regions, the mission added.

“In response to the appeal launched in the United Nation by the Syrian-American Medical Association (SAMS) concerning the situation of injured children in Aleppo who need specialized medical care not available to them because of the constant bombardment carried out by Syrian forces on hospitals and healthcare facilities; the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will take necessary measures, in cooperation with the SAMS, for the medical evacuation of 150 injured children from inside Aleppo, ensure their treatment in border hospitals in Turkey, and transfer cases requiring more specialized treatment to appropriate hospitals in Saudi Arabia. Moreover, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will provide (C-Scan) devices for hospitals in Aleppo and surrounding areas as needed,” the press statement read.

It added: “While the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia makes this announcement, it stresses its strong belief in the importance of alleviating the suffering of the Syrian people and to deter aggression practiced by the Syrian authorities and their allies. Furthermore, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia calls upon the international community to help in reaching a cease-fire, stopping the bloodshed, and returning to the political track in order to achieve the Syrian people’s legitimate aspirations for freedom and dignity in accordance with Geneva I Communiqué and relevant United Nations resolutions.”
