Jeddah – The Saudi cabinet praised on Monday the Saudi-American joint communiqué, which was issued at the conclusion of US President Donald Trump’s maiden visit to the Kingdom.

The cabinet also said that his visit has contributed to consolidating Saudi-US relations and promoting stability, security and prosperity in the region.

Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz chaired the cabinet session held at Al-Salam Palace in Jeddah.

“The Declaration of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and the US President on their common stance to confront mutual foes aims at deepening existing bonds and draws up a path for peace and prosperity for all,” the cabinet said in a statement.

It added that the two countries have expressed a shared willingness to confront common threats and to engage in new initiatives to counter violent and extremist rhetoric and to hamper the financing of terrorism.

The statement also highlighted a joint Saudi-US agreement to contain Iran’s “nefarious” interference in other countries’ internal affairs.

On a different note, the cabinet commended the outcome of the 172nd Ministerial Conference of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) held in Vienna last week, during which the member states agreed to extend the current production reduction agreement signed last year for a period of nine months, which ends in late March 2018.

It also hailed the outcome of the 2nd Ministerial Meeting between the OPEC countries and ten non-OPEC major producing countries, endorsing the current extension agreement.

The Saudi cabinet highlighted the importance of the Kingdom’s petroleum policy in support of cooperation with the main producing countries to restore balance to the world oil markets and reduce fluctuations in a way that ensures the interests of both producers and consumers alike.

The statement said that the cabinet reiterated its support to the measures taken by the Kingdom of Bahrain to maintain its security and stability and the safety of its citizens.

It also expressed the Kingdom’s strong condemnation of the armed attack in Minya in Egypt last week and reaffirmed its support for the measures taken by the Egyptian government to defend its security and protect its people in line with international law.

The cabinet voiced Riyadh’s emphasis on the importance of concerted international efforts to eliminate the scourge of terrorism and extremism.
