Jeddah – Saudi Arabia cannot allow Turkey to set up military bases on its territories, an official security source said according to the Saudi Foreign Ministry on Twitter.

The source explained that the kingdom does not need foreign bases on its land because its own armed forces are at their top level.

These forces themselves are present abroad, including Incirlik base in Turkey, for the purpose of combating terrorism and protecting security and stability in the region.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had on Friday proposed that Ankara set up a military base in Saudi Arabia, reported Anadolu news agency and Agence France Presse.
