Dubai – The Organizing Committee of Dubai International Holy Quran Award (DIHQA) announced Friday that it has chosen the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud as the Islamic Personality for the year 2017.

The winning Islamic figure was announced at a press conference, organized by the committee, in the presence of its Chairman Counselor Ibrahim Mohammed Bu Melha, Vice Chairman, Organizing Committee members and media Representatives ahead of the commencement of the 21st edition of the competition.

In a statement, the Organizing Committee said it has chosen King Salman in recognition of the great services he provides for the Holy Mosques, the holy sites and for Muslims in general in the outskirts of the earth, his noble traditions and noble positions as well as the development of the Islamic work that achieves the goals of the Islamic Sharia.

Bu Melha told reporters that the prestigious title was awarded to King Salman for “his noble positions and tremendous contributions in the service of Islam, Muslims and the holy shrines.”

He said that King Salman had made relentless efforts to unify Arabs and Muslims so as to confront challenges they face.

“King Salman’s charitable and humanitarian works are countless. He extends assistance to all countries, especially Islamic ones, hit by disasters and catastrophes,” he added.

“The Award has honored a long list of esteemed Islamic figures and entities over the last 21 years in appreciation to their shiny records in serving Islam, Muslims and holy Quran worldwide.”

The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques is of a well-known family highly acknowledged for long serving the Two Holy Mosques and their visitors and facilitating the Hajj and Umrah affairs, he added.

“King Salman, with his tireless effort, great services in this regard, as well as his noble traits and stands, is on top of that list of historic leaders whom the Islamic nation is so proud of.”

The honor of serving the Two Holy Mosques and sacred places for Muslims from across the globe was the most important of such exceptional services he assumed, Bu Melha underlined.
