Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan shakes hands with King Salman of Saudi Arabia

Tangier, Riyadh-Saudi Arabia has reiterated that it welcomed the return to normalcy in Turkey and the prevalence of security and stability under the leadership of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the Turkish government’s continuation in exercising its functions.

This came during a phone call between Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Erdogan on Sunday.

For his part, the Turkish President thanked the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques for his sincere feelings and keen interest in what is happening in Turkey, praising the distinguished relations between the two brotherly countries.

On the other hand, a foreign diplomatic source confirmed to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that Saudi authorities have detained Turkey’s military attache to Kuwait at the request of the Turkish government.

Reasons for the detention were not provided, but it is assumed that Turkey asked for the arrest due to suspicions the attache was involved in the failed coup attempt over the weekend.

The source expected Saudi Arabia to hand over the Turkish attache soon, but he said he is not sure about the exact timing.
