Riyadh- Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Philanthropic Foundation (MiSK) on May 21 will be hosting the Tweeps 2017 interactive forum. Various invited leaders, decision-makers, and renowned intellectuals from around the world will attend the forum.

Of the most notable attendees will be US President Donald Trump, UAE Foreign Minister Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and his Saudi counterpart Adel Al-Jubeir.

George Salama, Head of Public Policy and Government Relations for Twitter in the MENA region, and Simon Milner, Facebook’s Policy director for the UK, Middle East and Africa will also be attending. Other leaders and influential figures are expected to be speaking at the event.

The central theme of discussion is how to ensure that social media platforms strengthen counterterrorism and counter-radicalization.

Launched in 2013, the first Tweeps Forum enabled young Saudi men and women to discuss their experiences in various fields. The second event explored the issue of sports fanaticism, while the third looked at how Twitter could be utilized to create a positive impact on society. The fourth session, held in 2016, discussed the impact and responsibility of social media websites. At this session, numerous ministers and officials of the Gulf Cooperation Council shared their experiences and vision and recommended initiatives on utilizing social media in a beneficial way.

Tweeps is an interactive forum hosted by MiSK and aims at connecting young people interested in social media with social media pioneers, to engage in a meaningful discussion about social media topics, and to share creative and positive ideas.

Its upcoming session will focus on social media and counterterrorism. It will discuss and evaluate the best strategies to utilize social media in educating and empowering young people to counter extremism, terrorism and radicalization online.
