Riyadh – Saudi Arabia announced on Thursday that the suicide bomber who blew himself up at the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah was a Saudi national with a history of drug abuse.

In a statement, the Saudi Interior Ministry said 26-year-old Nayer Musallam Hammad Al-Nijeidi Al-Bluwi, carried out the attack near the Prophet’s Mosque in Madinah, which left four security force members dead.

The ministry’s security spokesman, Lieutenant Mansour Al-Turki, named the four slain security men as Privates Muhammad bin Mutad Hilal Al-Muwallad, Hani Bin Salim Saleem Al-Subhi, Abdulmajeed bin Abdullah Owdah Al-Harbi and Abdulrahman Bin Naji Saleem Al-Jihani.

The ministry also revealed the names of three other men who perpetrated suicide attacks on the same day in the Saudi area of Qatif.

The perpetrators of the terrorist blast in Qatif were identified as Abdulrahman Saleh Muhammad Al-Imir (23), who was detained in 2013 for participating in riots calling for the release of detainees held in terror cases.

The second terrorist was identified as Ibrahim Saleh Muhammad Al-Imir (20) and the third was identified as Abdulkareem Ibrahim Muhammad Al-Hasani, 20. All the three had not yet obtained Saudi national identity cards.

The ministry also said that investigations have led to the arrest of 19 suspects, including 12 Pakistani nationals and 7 Saudis, involved in the attacks in Madinah, Qatif and Jeddah.

The ministry’s statement added that examination of the remains from the two terror attacks in Madinah and Qatif “revealed the presence of the explosive Nitroglycerin”, which it said was similar to the substance found in the scene of the bombing at Soliman Fakeeh hospital parking lot in Jeddah. The spokesman added that the authorities were still conducting tests.

Meanwhile, security sources told Asharq al-Awsat that the two siblings Abdulrahman and Saleh Al-Imir have used the car of their elder brother to perpetrate the terrorist attack.

The sources added that the majority of people arrested over the last days for their involvement with ISIS have admitted to being drug addicts.
