Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat – Saudi Arabia yesterday rejected the theory, that Al-Malaz prison guards facilitated the escape of seven suspected al Qaeda detainees three days ago, as announced by the Interior Ministry last Saturday.

Major General Mansour al-Turki, the official Interior Ministry spokesman, told Asharq al-Awsat that the loyalty of the Saudi security guards cannot be questioned. They are loyal to their religion, king, and country, and this was exemplified in the security confrontation witnessed by the nation, during which they fought courageously.

The Saudi Interior Ministry spokesperson supported his argument by saying: “if there were collusion between prison guards and security suspects, then there would have been many more escapes, and the numbers would have been much higher than those who escaped from the Al-Malaz penitentiary.”

The Saudi Interior Ministry had announced on Saturday that seven prisoners had escaped from the Al-Malaz general prison in central Riyadh, and they were six Saudis and one Yemeni national.
