Saudi Arabia expresses concern over continuing violence in Syria | ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive 2005 -2017

Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat – The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia yesterday reiterated its concern regarding the continuing violence in Syria, and the increase in the death toll there. In a speech before the extraordinary meeting of the UN Human Rights Council on Syria, Saudi ambassador to the UN, Dr. Abdulwahab Attar, draw attention to the call made by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz to the Syrian leadership to immediately halt all violence and carry out reforms. The Saudi monarch also called on the Syrian authorities to end its human rights abuses and achieve the aspirations of the Syrian people with regards to reform and progress.

Dr. Abdulwahab Attar also stressed the importance of Damascus abiding by the resolutions put in place by the Arab League, as well as the other initiatives aimed at defusing the Syrian crisis. He said that the best outcome of the UN Human Rights Council meeting would be greater support for the Arab League initiative to stop the bloodshed in Syria.
