Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat—Saudi Arabia is celebrating the ninth anniversary of King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud’s ascension to the throne, marking a period of sustained development and achievement.

Senior officials from across the Kingdom congratulated King Abdullah on the ninth anniversary of the Allegiance Ceremony which saw him formally ascend to the throne on August 2, 2005, succeeding King Fahd Bin Abdulaziz. The celebrations are being held in on the anniversary in the Islamic hijri calendar.

Crown Prince Salman Bin Abdulaziz congratulated King Abdullah on Friday. He said: “We have witnessed the development of legislation that ensures more stability and prosperity, in addition to the improvement of the standard of living. We also witness the King’s bold and courageous stands towards Arab and Muslim issues.”

“The King’s fondest wish is to see the citizens avoiding division and disagreement, not compromising unity and security, and contributing to moving the development wheel forward,” the Crown Prince said.

In a report published by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), senior Saudi officials highlighted the achievements that have been achieved throughout King Abdullah’s reign, including “balanced and comprehensive developments, in addition to the achievement of major projects such as the establishment of ports and cities, as well as major railway and transportation projects.” The report highlighted the King Abdullah Financial District, currently under development in Riyadh, which will see the establishment of a major financial center in the Kingdom’s capital.

Deputy Crown Prince Muqrin Bin Abdulaziz also congratulated the Saudi King on the ninth anniversary of his ascension to the throne. In remarks to SPA, Deputy Crown Prince Muqrin highlighted King Abdullah’s security achievements: “The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has succeeded in countering terrorists which targeted our country during the past two decades . . . The security services of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will not tolerate any breach against security which is the basis of stability, development and prosperity.”
