Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat – Two youths in their twenties broke into and burned down a cultural center in the Saudi capital of Riyadh yesterday.
Fire fighters, Red Crescent teams, and security patrols succeeded in extinguishing the fire which destroyed all the furniture, décor, and windows of the Prince Faisal Bin-Fahd Cultural Center. Major Sami al-Shuwayrikh, spokesman for the Riyadh police department, told Asharq Al-Awsat that the two youths “are psychologically ill” and were arrested immediately after the incident, adding that the authorities referred them to the mental health hospital in Riyadh to verify their health condition.
The Prince Faisal Bin-Fahd Cultural Center has hosted many celebrations and occasions and organized many plays, recitals, and the Riyadh Municipality’s functions.
