London, Asharq Al-Awsat – A Royal decree was issued, Wednesday 28 December, appointing Prince Mohammed Bin Nawaf Bin Abdulaziz as the Saudi Ambassador to the United Kingdom at the rank of minister. Upon the new ambassador”s arrival in the UK, he made a statement regarding his new position.

&#34I am honoured that the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz has entrusted me to serve my country as ambassador to the United Kingdom and Ireland. I am delighted to be here.

My mission here will be to continue the task ably undertaken by my predecessors, especially HRH Prince Turki. That task is to bring better understanding of the Arab and Islamic world, and specifically of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, to the West.

We live in an increasingly complicated world. Technology and communications have given us instant access to each other across thousands of miles compelling us to manage ever more complex and intertwined lives. This has made it more important than ever that we learn to understand one another, to understand what is true and what is not true about one another, and to know that although space, culture, history and language appear to separate us, our ultimate aim is the same: to live in peace and harmony with one another in a stable and secure world.&#34
