Tel Aviv- As an initiative to show solidarity with the Palestinian imprisoned in Israeli prisons Bilal Kayed, who has been in a hunger strike since 49 days, General Secretary of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine imprisoned Ahmed Sa’adat announced joining dozens of hunger strikers.

Sa’adat joined the open hunger strike beside dozens of imprisoned as an attempt to put pressure on the Israel Prison Service and make it abide by the captives’ demands, mainly canceling the administrative detentions. Kayed, for example, is an administrative detainee who is being subjected to the British mandate regulations that permit detention for years without pausing accusations or referring to court.

Total number of administrative Palestinian detainees tripled during the past two years reaching 700 prisoners.

A source close to General Secretary said, “Strive against administrative arrests is an integral part of the Palestinian strive nowadays. The occupation is exploiting the international and Arab situation to oppress the imprisoned Palestinians”. “Sa’adat escalating step came as a response to the deteriorating conditions in prisons. His step aims to expand the battle in prisons and apply pressure on the Israel Prison Service to release Kayed the soonest possible”, source added.

Palestinian Prisoners Club stated on Sunday that General Secretary was transferred to a cell in Rimon prison as a punishment for his sympathetic strike. Also, collective sanctions were imposed on dozens of prisoners who joined the hunger strike such as reducing canteen products, using electric devices, depriving them from visits and transferring them to cells.
