TYRE, Lebanon, (Reuters) – At least two rockets were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel on Friday, Lebanese security sources said.

They said the rockets were fired from the southern Tyre area close to the border. Israel forces responded by firing eight shells into an area of fruit plantations from which the rockets were fired, the sources said.

In Jerusalem, police also said two rockets were fired from Lebanon on Friday into northern Israel. They were the first fired in months from Lebanon, where Israel and Hezbollah guerrillas fought a month-long war in 2006.

There were no immediate reports of injuries from the rockets that struck in the western Galilee area or from the shelling in Lebanon.
