BASRA, Iraq (AP) – A roadside bomb blast targeted a passing British military patrol on Tuesday, slightly wounding at least one British soldier and three Iraqis, the military said.

The bomb exploded at 10:30 a.m. near a school in northeastern Basra, 550 kilometers (340 miles) southeast of Baghdad, wounding a number of children, two adults and one coalition soldier, said British military spokesman Capt. James St. John-Price.

No further details were immediately available. Shiite Muslim-dominated Basra is regarded as one of Iraq’s calmer regions, but sectarian violence and attacks against British-led military personnel and Iraqi forces still flares.
