DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, (AP) – Dubai police chief says the Gulf emirate will beef up its surveillance capability after the January murder of a Hamas operative and will have “cameras everywhere.”

Lt. Gen. Dahi Khalfan Tamim says the existing network of 25,000 security cameras has helped police “pull the strings together” and “identify suspects” in the assassination of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh.

His remarks were published Sunday in The National newspaper.

Dubai police released a 10-minute compilation of video surveillance showing several of 32 identified suspects arriving at Dubai airport, entering a hotel lobby and even riding an elevator with the victim.

Tamim said Dubai will spend $136 million for more cameras that will cover “dead spots” in the city.
