BAGHDAD, (AP) – Hundreds of demonstrators are gathering outside a morgue in a southern Iraqi city to demand an investigation into a deadly raid involving U.S. forces.

An Iraqi police official says the wife of a local clan leader was killed in the pre-dawn raid in the city of Kut. They also say the clan leader was arrested.

The official spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to release the information.

The U.S. military confirms Sunday’s raid occurred and that a woman was killed, but gives no additional details.

Kut is about 100 miles (160 kilometers) southeast of Baghdad.
