London, Asharq Al-Awsat- Saudi Arabia won”t change its policy on oil or Foreign Affairs issues following the death of King Fahd, the Kingdom”s Ambassador to the United Kingdom Prince Turki al-Faisal Said.

&#34The crown prince, who has become king, worked closely with the late king in implementing the policies of Saudi Arabia both externally and internally,&#34 Ambassador Prince Turki told a news conference in London”s Saudi Embassy.

&#34So I cannot imagine that there will be any particular change in that policy but rather a continuation,&#34 he said. Asked if that included oil policy, Turki replied: &#34Yes.&#34

Crude prices soared past $61 a barrel Monday after the announcement of King Fahd”s death, but eased back a bit on reassurances that the nation”s oil policy would not change

&#34As you know, King Fahd was king for nearly 23 years. … He left his mark on Saudi Arabia”s policies, external and internal,&#34 added Prince Turki, who is due to become the new Saudi ambassador to the United States.

When asked about changes in government posts Prince Turki said that that is something to be decided upon, &#34I can not say anything in particular right now&#34.

&#34We all mourn the loss of a great King. King Fahd was a much-loved king and truly someone who dedicated his life to the service of his people, to Islam and to the Arab world. He was also an internationalist and maintained excellent relations with foreign leaders from around the world. A devout Muslim, King Fahd preferred the title ”Custodian of the two Holy Mosques” rather than Majesty.&#34 Prince Turki added.

King Fahd is succeeded by his brother Crown Prince Abdullah, who now becomes King Abdullah. Prince Sultan, another brother, becomes Crown Prince.
