Washington, Asharq Al-Awsat- Saudi Ambassador to the United States, Prince Turki al-Faisal announced the launch of the Saudi Arabian scholarship program, which was initiated in 2005. The scholarship offers 10,000 students full four-year scholarships ranging in various fields, from bachelor degrees to PhDs.

There are currently over 10,000 Saudi students enrolled in universities in the US, a figure that will increase with the advent of the coming year. Prince Turki believes that this is a mutually beneficial factor that will help strengthen the relationship between the two countries for generations to come. He claimed that terrorist efforts to negatively affect the relationship between the two countries have failed – a faulty miscalculation on their behalf, he said.

Speaking at the Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) yesterday, Prince Turki said that the relationship between the two countries has become much stronger than what it had been in the past five years – a direct result of the dual efforts that both countries have exerted. He continued to say that terrorist attempts to affect this relationship have only increased cooperation between the countries, also leading to the realization that their relationship was more than just about oil. Al-Faisal believes that among the important foundational pillars that can help strengthen the ties between the two countries are: oil policies, trade, the war on terrorism, stabilizing the Middle East and mutual respect.
