Baghdad – Iraqi Forces Coalition, largest Sunni bloc in Iraq’s Parliament, accused Sunday factions affiliated with the Popular Mobilization Forces of kidnappings and raids in Baghdad.

The bloc held Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces Dr. Haider al-Abadi and other security officials accountable to maintaining security and protecting civilians in areas of violations.

A statement issued by the IFC and published by al-Mada Press Agency stated that the “political body of the IFC convened a meeting on Saturday at Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Salim al-Jabouri’s house, chaired by Deputy Ahmed al-Masari to discuss the security situation in Baghdad and other provinces.”

The statement added: “the attendees discussed repeated violations in the security file, which resulted in civilian casualties, in addition to the violations pursued by factions affiliated with the PMF, including kidnappings and raids in specific areas aiming at spreading instability and returning the period of sectarianism.”

The statement confirmed that combatting terrorism requires unifying efforts and internal visions and not giving ISIS a chance to break this national unity through carrying out some abusive practices.

According to the statement, the Coalition held Haider al-Abadi along with leaders of the security and military forces accountable of maintaining security and protecting civilians.

It also called for punishing whoever tries to hinder efforts seeking stability in the country.

The statement pointed out that the meeting witnessed the discussion of the situation of refugees, means of providing them with basic services, working on returning them to their homelands and reconstructing the infrastructures in their lands.
