Ramallah – In an effort to raise awareness on their plight, Palestinians launched an online campaign with the hashtag “#Occupation is” on various media portals.

The campaign, launched in English and Arabic, seeks to shed light on how occupation affects individual Palestinians. It was kicked off to mark 50 years of Israeli occupation of Palestinian land in 1967.

The campaign began with a 30-second video of Palestinian Liberation Organization Dr. Hanan al-Shaarawy, who recounted her personal experience under occupation.

She said: “Occupation is deprivation. It is racial segregation when they took away my daughters’ identities and therefore deprived them of the right to live. They deprived me of living with my daughters and grandchildren.”

A team from the campaign explained that it seeks to raise awareness on the Israeli practices and violations of humanitarian and international laws.

They wanted also wanted to highlight the humanitarian angle of living under occupation.

The messages and social media posts will demonstrate the Palestinian people’s perseverance and attachment to their land.

The organizers of the campaign called on all individuals, regardless of their nationality, to share their experience through a video recording or the abovementioned hashtag.

Hundreds of Palestinians have since rushed to express themselves and present their experience under occupation.
