Abu Dhabi- Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed, the United Nations Special Envoy for Yemen, has discussed with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan the latest developments in Yemen and persistent efforts being made by the UN to solve the Yemeni crisis and deliver humanitarian aid throughout the country.

Sheikh Abdullah reiterated the UAE’s support of the UN in its quest to reach a political solution in Yemen.

He emphasized the county’s historic stance in assisting Yemen and its people, and its commitment towards supporting legitimacy in order to restore security and stability, as well as preserve its sovereignty and unity.

Sheikh Abdullah also stressed the need to ensure the delivery of humanitarian assistance to the Yemeni people.

In his turn, the UN envoy lauded the UAE for its consistent support of Yemen.

Meanwhile, the Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, on Sunday distributed humanitarian aid to underprivileged families, orphans and widows in the Mukalla District, Governorate of Hadramaut, as part of the UAE’s relief program to alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people.

Ahmed Al Neyadi, Deputy Head of the ERC team in Hadramaut, said the latest food assistance reflects the desire of the leadership and the people of the UAE to help the Yemeni people overcome the economic difficulties the country is facing.

“The assistance seeks to fill the food gap caused by the difficult economic and humanitarian conditions, which has increased poverty and unemployment among the Yemeni people.

“We will continue our efforts to improve the living conditions of the underprivileged through vital services and humanitarian projects,” he stressed.
