Dubai, Asharq Al-Awsat – The OPEC Fund for international development will donate one million dollar to the victims affected by the disastrous earthquake that wrecked Pakistan, India and Afghanistan, announced Jamal Nasser Lutah, Assistant Under-secretary for industrial affairs at the Ministry of Finance and Industry, and Chairman of the Fund’s board of governors.
“The Fund decided to donate this money to help these countries face the ramifications of this natural disaster and to extend our help to the people who are most affected and are in dire need of basic food and medical supplies", said Lutah.
The Fund decided to intervene with this donation once the scale of this disaster was unveiled,” added Lutah.
According to Lutah, $600,000 thousand Dollars will be allocated to Pakistan, $200,000 to India and $200,000 to Afghanistan.
Lutah mentioned that the donation will be provided to the Red Crescent in Pakistan, India and Afghanistan as it is the official channel for aid and donations.
The OPEC Fund for International Development was established in January 1976 by the member countries of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). The Fund was established to support low-income countries in their efforts to make economic and social progress. It aims to promote cooperation between member countries of OEPC and other developing nations.
