JERUSALEM, AP – Israel’s attorney general will notify Ehud Olmert on Sunday that he will continue to hold the title of acting prime minister until the country’s March 28 elections, according to media reports.

Meni Mazuz has decided to continue defining Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, who remains in a coma after a severe stroke on Jan. 4, as temporarily incapacitated, newspapers and radio stations reported Sunday.

If Mazuz were to declare Sharon permanently incapacitated, government ministers would have to choose an acting prime minister within 100 days of Olmert’s Jan. 4 takeover from Sharon.

A declaration of permanent incapacitation would be irreversible.

Hadassah Hospital spokesman Ron Krumer said Sunday that Sharon’s condition — critical but stable — was unchanged.

Over the weekend, Channel 1 TV cited one of Sharon’s neurosurgeons as saying it is possible the prime minister would emerge from his coma, though some outside experts say prospects for recovery look grim.

A Justice Ministry spokesman wasn’t immediately available for comment on the media reports.
