Islamabad– Pakistan says there is no meeting scheduled between President General Pervez Musharraf and Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon during the forthcoming session of United Nations to be held in New York this month.

Commenting on the news about prospects of any meeting between Musharraf and Sharon, Foreign Office spokesman Naeem Khan said in a statement that there is no such meeting in the schedule of Musharraf during his visit to New York.

Khan said Musharraf would address American Jewish Congress in New York during this visit, adding that it is part of Pakistan”s efforts to promote inter-faith harmony among various religions.

The spokesman, however, said Pakistan would send a diplomatic delegation to Palestine which will visit Gaza besides other areas under the control of Palestinian Authority.

Reiterating Pakistan”s principled stand on the recognition of Israel, the spokesman said there is absolutely no decision to recognize Israel or start trade with it, following the meeting between the foreign ministers of Pakistan and Israel as it is only to promote the cause of Palestine and to play active role in resolving the issue.
