Riyadh, Asharq Al-Awsat—The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, issued a royal decree on Saturday relieving Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Sultan bin Abdulaziz of his post, appointing Prince Fahd bin Abdullah bin Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Saud, as Deputy Defense Minister at the rank of minister.

Prince Khalid bin Sultan had been appointed Deputy Minister of Defense at the rank of minister in November 2001. He previously served as head of the Saudi armed forces during the 1991 Gulf War.

Prince Fahd bin Abdullah has served as the Commander of Saudi Arabia’s Naval Forces since April 2002.
