JERUSALEM, (Reuters) – Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu travelled to neighbouring Jordan on Thursday for talks with King Abdullah, an Israeli official said.

The two leaders met in the Red Sea resort of Aqaba.

Netanyahu met Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak on Monday at Sharm el-Sheik on the Red Sea ahead of crucial talks in Washington with U.S. President Barack Obama on May 18.

Netanyahu sought to reassure Egypt about his commitment to Middle East peace talks ahead of the visit to Washington.

Obama has made clear that advancing Palestinian statehood would be a priority for his administration but has yet to say how he intends to do so.

Jordan and Egypt, like Washington, back a two-state solution. Netanyahu has so far avoided making any endorsement of that goal.
