Sana’a- The Sana’a-based association of abductees’ mothers held on Sunday a demonstration near the United Nations Office in the militia-held capital, Sana’a, denouncing attempts to link the fate of their abducted sons to the chaotic political scene.

In its statement, the association decried the silence regarding the case of abductees in the prisons of Houthi and Saleh militias, neglecting their right to enjoy the freedom granted to them by spiritual laws, Yemeni constitution and international laws.

The protesters made demands for the prompt release of the abductees as the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) was holding its 34th session.

The association affirmed that torture is ongoing inside militias’ prisons, affirming that 71 persons were murdered after being abducted, revealed the statement published by Saba Net.

It also held the international organizations, on top of them the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), responsible for protecting human rights and releasing their abducted sons.

Yemeni Coalition to Monitor Human Rights Violations (YCMHRV) has called earlier for activating the role of penal institutions and criminal follow-up for the violators of human rights in Yemen. YCMHRV also called for the implementation of UN resolutions on the confiscation of funds of former Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh and Abdul Malek al-Houthi.

On the sidelines of UNHRC’s 34th session, legal expert Liza al-Badawi pointed out that activists are being abused by militias while on their missions, whether in getting the information and publishing it or defending human rights or even unveiling the violations against others.
