Abu Dhabi, Aden – German Chancellor Angela Merkel uncovered on Monday her intension to employ diplomatic channels in search for a peaceful solution to the ongoing war in Yemen, adding that she already received the support of Riyadh in this regard.

After arriving to the UAE on Monday following a visit to Jeddah where she held talks with Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz, Merkel said that what makes her happy is that “Saudi Arabia is also betting on the political operation led by the UN” to solve the Yemeni conflict.

“Germany has offered to support this UN process with its own diplomatic possibilities. We will now move ahead with the necessary coordination with the UN secretary general (Antonio Guterres),” she said.

On Monday, Merkel held talks with Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed on the conflicts in Yemen, Libya and Syria, as well as strengthening economic ties.

She is scheduled to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Black Sea resort of Sochi on Tuesday.

In a related development, a conflict of decisions intensified on Monday inside the government of the two sides responsible for the coup in Sana’a, the Houthis and former President Ali Abdullah Saleh.

The conflict started when head of the so-called Higher Political Council in Sana’a, Saleh al-Samad, canceled several decisions issued by Abdul Aziz bin Habtoor, who heads the non-legitimate government and is loyal to the ousted Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Meanwhile, Yemen’s Ambassador to the UN Khalid Yamani affirmed on Monday that his country’s government is working with concerned parties to gather information and evidence proving Iran’s flagrant interference in the Yemeni file.

Yamani said the evidence was requested by the UN and some member-states.

“The government is facing difficulties in gathering the proof and documents because Tehran is hiding the tracks of its involvement in Yemeni affairs, leaving no trace of its criminal operations conducted in Yemen,” he said.
