TRIPOLI, (AFP) – Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi has praised WikiLeaks for exposing US “hypocrisy” through its diplomacy conducted behind closed doors, in comments published on Wednesday by state news agency JANA.

The whistleblowing website has “proved that America is not what it has led allies and friends to believe it to be,” he said.

Kadhafi said WikiLeaks has revealed that even “US relations with its allies are hypocritical,” through the hundreds of thousands of US diplomatic cables it has made available on the Internet.

“The true face of US diplomacy has been revealed through the confidential documents,” he said, quoted by JANA.

The Libyan leader said the website’s role was “very important in revealing the plots which are hatched behind the curtains against persons and peoples,” but warned it could lose credibility if it started “to damage people’s image.”

According to one of the US cables released on the website, Kadhafi himself fears flying over water, prefers to stay on the ground floor and almost never travels without his trusted Ukrainian nurse.
