Damascus- Lebanon”s new prime minister, Fouad Siniora, headed to Damascus on Sunday, a day after his cabinet won a confidence vote in parliament.

Siniora will have a meeting with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on means of bolstering the bilateral relations between the two countries.

The cabinet led by Siniora won 92 votes of confidence in the 128-member parliament, according to reports of foreign news agencies.

United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan welcomed the vote of confidence late on Saturday.

&#34The secretary-general extends the support of the United Nations to the new government in meeting the challenges ahead in the best interest of the people of Lebanon,&#34 his spokesman was quoted as saying by Reuters.

&#34He particularly looks forward to progress towards the full implementation of all the requirements of Security Council Resolution 1559 and will continue to work closely with the parties in that regard.&#34
