BEIRUT (Reuters) – Lebanon’s presidential election was postponed from Tuesday to March 25, the parliament speaker said on Monday, declaring the 16th delay of a vote derailed by a deep political crisis.

Speaker Nabih Berri announced the postponement in a statement. The election has been repeatedly delayed by a power struggle between the governing coalition, which is backed by Western states and Saudi Arabia, and an opposition alliance led by Hezbollah, supported by Syria and Iran.

The crisis, the worst since Lebanon’s 1975-90 civil war, has left the presidency vacant since November.
