Kuwait- The National Assembly of Kuwait, on Sunday, approved the claim presented for lifting the immunity of Kuwaiti Member of Parliament Abdul-Hamid Dashti. The request was based on the case on homeland security lawsuit issued against Dashti for incitement against Saudi Arabia.

MP Ahmed Al-Qudaibi told Asharq Al-Awsat that the committee appealed its case for lifting parliamentary immunity of Dashti to the National Assembly. The assembly is expected to vote on the claim file later this week.

He highlighted that lifting off immunity doesn’t necessarily translate into Dashti being removed from his official duties or banned from attending parliament; however, it will permit the lawsuit to take its natural course. Also, it will allow public prosecution to bring in Dashti for investigation.

The Saudi ambassador to Kuwait Abdulaziz al-Fayez already mentioned that he previously petitioned a warrant to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the State of Kuwait objecting the tenacious provocations Dashiti passed against the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Dashiti had repetitively attempted to insult the Kingdom’s administration and leaders during a speech broadcasted on a Syrian channel. Ambassador al-Fayez ensured Asharq Al-Awsat that the lawsuit of invective against a fellow country was presented to public prosecution by the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Al-Fayez reaffirmed his absolute trust in the judiciary system of Kuwait and that the proceedings will take their legal course.
