Kuwait, Asharq Al-Awsat – The 30th Gulf Cooperation Council [GCC] summit that opened in Kuwait Monday expressed a strong message of support to Saudi Arabia, whose delegation is being led by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz, with regards to its confrontation of the attacks of the Houthi infiltrators.

At the launch of the summit, Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah said that what Saudi Arabia is facing “from flagrant aggression that targets its sovereignty and security by those who have infiltrated its territory is something that is collectively rejected” confirming that any breach of the security or sovereignty of Saudi Arabia represents a threat to the collective security of the GCC states. The Emir of Kuwait also called for “a solution to the crisis of the Iranian nuclear file through dialogue and peaceful means.” He also condemned the terrorist bombings that took place in Iraq.

The atmosphere of the summit relaxed following remarks by Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim al-Thani, in which he said that Qatar welcomes the nomination of a Bahraini as GCC Secretary-General.

As for the economy, the Emir of Kuwait confirmed the “intention to work on a timetable on a currency union agreement, as well as establish a railway network for the GCC countries.”

The GCC also launched its electricity grid project.
