Amman- Jordan”s King Abdullah II has postponed his visit to Israel and the Palestinian territories owing to security concerns, Deputy Prime Minister Marwan Muasher said Monday.

The king had set no date for his visit, but his aides had said it would take place either last week or this.

&#34The visit has been postponed for a bit, but not canceled,&#34 Muasher told reporters.

He said talks were underway with Palestinian and Israeli officials to reschedule the visit, but they had not agreed on new dates yet.

&#34The security conditions are not right at the present time,&#34Muasher was quoted as saying by The Associated Press.

Abdullah is expected to visit the West Bank town of Ramallah for talks with Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas and the Israeli city of Tel Aviv to meet Prime Minister Ariel Sharon. His aim would be to encourage the revival of peace negotiations.
