AMMAN, Jordan, (AP) – Jordan’s government spokesman says Amman has asked the United States for information of a Texas terror plot involving a Jordanian citizen.
Nabil al-Sharif says the Jordanian Embassy in Washington has contacted the U.S. State and Justice departments about the case against Hosam Smadi.
The 19-year-old was arrested Thursday in Dallas.
U.S. officials say Smadi placed what he believed to be a car bomb in a parking garage beneath the 60-story Fountain Place office tower in Dallas. The decoy device was given to him by an undercover FBI agent.
Smadi has been charged with attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction.
Al-Sharif said Sunday that Amman’s efforts were aimed at ensuring a “fair trial for the Jordanian youth.”
