Jeddah – The Saudi-Qatari Coordination Council convened on Tuesday at Al-Salam palace in Jeddah and was co-chaired with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif bin Abdulaziz, Deputy Premier and minister of interior and Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Qatari Prime Minister and minister of interior.

A joint statement was issued at the outset of the meeting, stressing that the fight against terrorism was a shared international responsibility.

The statement underlined the importance of concerted international efforts to confront terrorism at all security, intellectual, financial, media and military levels.

The Qatari side praised Crown Prince Mohammed for winning the George Tenet Medal, which was granted to him by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) for the distinguished intelligence work in the field of combating terrorism, in recognition of his contribution to achieving world peace and security.

The two sides also welcomed the recent release of Qatari and Saudi abductees in Iraq, praising the efforts and endeavors exerted in this regard and their safe return to their country and their families.

The statement noted that the council touched on aspects of bilateral cooperation in various fields and commended the Kingdom’s hosting of the Expo of “Made in Qatar 2016”.

The meeting saw the signing of an agreement in the field of air transport services as well as an executive program in the field of education.

“The Council extended thanks, gratitude to and appreciation of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Emir of the State of Qatar, for their great support of the Council’s efforts and for their keenness to overcome all obstacles that have hindered its work,” the statement read.
