GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) – A 30-year-old unarmed Palestinian man was shot and killed on Thursday by Israeli troops near the border at Rafah, Palestinian security and medical officials said.
Palestinian security initially thought he was killed by tank fire because tanks were operating in the area at the time, but a medical official later said he was killed by light arms fire.
The Israeli military said soldiers carrying light arms opened fire on a “suspicious” figure who “approached troops and posed a threat.” It said it didn’t know whether the man was armed.
