GAZA CITY, Gaza Strip (AP) – An Israeli airstrike on Friday killed three Palestinian militants and wounded a fourth shortly after they fired a homemade rocket into Israel, officials said.

The men were identified by Palestinians as members of the Popular Resistance Committees, a small militant group that frequently fires the projectiles into Israel. The group’s leader, Jamal Abu Samhadana, was killed in an Israeli airstrike late Thursday, and PRC members had vowed revenge.

The Israeli army said it attacked the militants after they fired the rocket, lightly wounding one man. A second airstrike then hit the militants’ car as they tried to speed away, killing three other militants, the army said. Palestinian officials, however, said the airstrikes had targeted separate groups several miles (kilometers) apart from one another.

There were no reports of injuries or damage caused by the Palestinian rocket.
