TEHRAN, Iran (AP) – State TV says Iran has released three Belgians held for two months for illegally entering a restricted area and gathering intelligence.

The television says the three were handed over on Tuesday to the Belgian ambassador in Tehran.

Wednesday’s report gave no details about when or where they were arrested. It identified the three as Van den Bosch, Vincent Binfleur, and Diego Gomatio.

Tehran Prosecutor Abbas Jafari Dolatabadi was quoted as saying they were detained for “entering a prohibited area and gathering intelligence.”

The arrests had not been made public earlier. Belgian Foreign Ministry declined to comment on the case late Tuesday, when Belgian media first reported the release, citing Iranian sources.
