TEHRAN, Iran, (AP) – Iran says it has not received any request from the United States to establish a diplomatic outpost in Tehran.
Hasan Qashqavi, spokesman for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, told reporters on Monday that Washington has not made a “formal” request to assign diplomats in the Iranian capital.
U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said Sunday that Washington was continuing to look at the idea of establishing a diplomatic outpost in Iran. Rice spoke while flying from India to Kazakhstan.
The U.S. has not had formal diplomatic relations with Tehran for nearly 30 years.
