Iran Exploiting Arab Disputes – Kuwaiti FM | ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive 2005 -2017

Kuwait, Asharq Al-Awsat- Dr. Mohamed Al-Salem Al-Sabah, who holds the positions of Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and that of Foreign Minister called for Arabs to promote the Arab Peace Initiative to America, and to present it to President Barack Obama.

In an interview with Asharq Al-Awsat the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister said “We now have a new US President called Barack Hussein Obama, and he mentioned his name, Hussein, during his inauguration in a proud manner. We must not begin negatively with this man.”

The Kuwaiti Minister hailed King Abdullah Bin Abdul-Aziz of Saudi Arabia’s invitation to the Arab countries for reconciliation during the Kuwait Economic summit saying “I think King Abdullah was very clear, and now the ball is in their court.”

He also added that Arab disputes exhaust the Arab body and “weaken its immunity” making it vulnerable to all virus’s such as “the Iranian virus and the American virus.” He explained “Our disputes have nothing to do with Iran or others. Iran is exploiting these disputes, and all the surrounding countries exploit our differences in order to interfere in our affairs.”

Answering a question with regards to what Arab countries dispute about, the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister said “the Arab disputes are over ambition more than anything.”

Dr. Al-Sabah believes that Egypt holds all the cards, and that the Egyptian role is a fundamental and pivotal one, and one which represents the strength of Arab national security. He also believes that there must be a credible offer with regards to the Golan Heights “in order to examine the Syrian statement that is serious about peace.”

Dr. Al Sabah also revealed that the Arab invitation to Iran is a serious one “in order to overcome the negative Iranian attitudes, as it continues its occupation of three Emirati Islands, and interfering in the internal affairs [of others].”
