Hurriyat Leader Calls New Delhi Blasts an act of Terrorism | ASHARQ AL-AWSAT English Archive 2005 -2017

Srinagar, India, Asharq Al-Awsat- All Parties Hurriyat Conference leader, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, condemned the series of blast that shook New Delhi on Saturday and told reporters, “These acts of violence sully the reputation of the separatist movement in Kashmir”.

His remarks came during a meeting with the media to explain the umbrella organization’s plans to send relief aid to victims of this month’s earthquake through five border points along the Line of Control (LoC) which will be opened in November.

Farroq said he hoped to lead a five-man delegation to the Pakistan-administered Kashmir as soon as the disputed border is opened enabling families to meet and relief supplies to reach quake-ravaged areas.

The decision to send two delegations was reached during a meeting of the group’s general council on Monday. “I will head a delegation from Uri and Bilal Gani Lone will head the second from Tangdhar,” he said. “Our priority is to help those in need.”

India and Pakistan have agreed to open five crossing points along the LoC at Teethwal, Chakothi, Hajipur, Rawalkote and Tattapani on November 7.

The Hurriyat chairman called for travel arrangements to be eased for all those intending on crossing the LoC to assist the relief effort or check up on relatives. “People on both sides are desperate to help,” he said.
