Aden- Yemeni President Abdu Rabbo Mansur Hadi flew into Aden on Saturday coming from his base in the Saudi capital, Riyadh on a visit that would last a few days, according to an official at the Yemeni presidency.

The official said it is the President’s first trip to Aden since November 2015. Hadi is accompanied by a host of senior officials in his administration.

AFP reported that Hadi is expected to stay for a few days in the southern port city, which is still prey to frequent unrest – 18 months after his loyalists drove out Iran-backed rebels with the support of a Saudi-led coalition.

Hadi is set to meet with national, social and local security and military officials in Aden and its neighboring governorates.

The president would also inspect the situation in the governorate and work on solving several service-related issues at different living and security levels, according to the official Yemeni news agency SABA.

Hadi’s visit comes two months after Yemeni Prime Minister Ahmed bin Dagher and a number of his ministers had moved to the city.

The visit also came as fierce fighting raged between pro-government forces and rebels at several fronts in the country.

In the north, 18 rebels and 6 government forces members were killed in confrontations near the Saudi borders, military sources said.

In west Yemen, rebels launched a renewed assault on the outskirts of the town of Midi, on the Red Sea coast near the Saudi border, killing six soldiers and wounding 14, a military official told AFP.

The Yemeni army said on Saturday that tens of Houthi and Saleh armed militias were killed in al-Daleh, south the country.

In Taiz, fighting resumed between the Yemeni forces and rebel militias at several fronts, mainly the surroundings of the Presidential Palace, and the Canadian Hospital following an attack launched by the Yemeni Army on militia positions to recuperate the presidential palace.
